Concert in the Park

Wednesday night we were at Tustin's concert in the park. Murphy (Tim & Jenni's dog) was there and Wallace was in love. You can see his ecstasy in the second picture...

I know his outfit doesn't match. I wish I could say he dressed himself.

Fish

So on Saturday, Hung (a co-worker of mine) took me out fishing on a boat out of San Pedro. I left Meghan and Wallace early and got to the pier at 5am to claim our spots at the back starboard corner of the boat (Hung said it was the best spot and it was!). We loaded onto the boat after breakfast at the diner on the pier. The plan was to head out towards Catalina and spend the day casting next to the kelp beds (where all the life of the ocean is, Hung said). About 13 miles out on the 60 foot fishing boat we ran into a school of feeding frenzied giant squid. The captain of the boat announced that we were coming up on the squid...I thought to myself, "That'll be fun to see the giant squid." At the same time, the more experienced fishermen--including Hung--grabbed their poles and started tying on big jigs with large hooks to their lines. I continued to think that I would just sight-see, but after Hung pulled the first squid onto the boat he cast out again and handed me the pole to bring the next one in. As Hung went and got another pole ready, I got my first bite and pulled in one of the giants. After that, we both started just dangling the jigs into a foot of water and the squid were grabbing on right away. The deckhand with the gaff (long hooked pole) helped pull up the monsters onto the boat.
With the exhiliration of pulling in squid after squid for about an hour, we moved on to Catalina and arrived about 40 yards off of Two Harbors where there are large kelp beds. We started casting all over up and down the island and although it wasn't as easy as the squid being pulled onto the boat, we got a lot of bites and caught some pretty good fish. Hung almost caught his limit of Calico Bass and I caught a few, as well. We also hooked a number of Mackerel, but let those go because they don't taste good.
After a full day out on the water and many layers of sun screen later, we headed home for the two hour ride to the harbor. The crew cut the bass and squid into filets and we bagged them up, keeping them cool the whole time with ocean water hoses. By the time we arrived in San Pedro again at 5:30, I truly was wiped out and wondered how Hung could go almost every weekend for such a long day. I definitely learned a lot from the pro and had an amazing time out there.

Here's Hung and I with some of our Calico Bass..."Why is mine so much smaller than Hung's?" is the first thing Meghan said when she saw this picture.

Me with one of my squid. Ink was all over me and I had to wash multiple times to get the stench of the seafood out of my hands when I got home.

One of Hung's squids--notice the size of the eye on the squid. It was like a baseball almost...at least the size of a racquet ball.

cell phones

i left mine on the hood of my car. halfway to trader joes i saw something fly past my window and bounce along the street behind me while other cars ran into and over it. i busted a quick u-turn to pick it up, waited for things to clear and ran out to get it. not sure why i even cared or brought it with me in the first place, considering it's against the law to talk on it today. and everyday into the future. i'm still waiting for my bluetooth to arrive.

i got a few calls today from people yelling into the phone with lots of commotion in the background. "can you hear me?!? how do i sound!!? i'm using my hand's free!!". what has this world come to? today was probably the worst day to drive in california with all the crazy's searching and fumbling over wires, ear pieces, and trying to get their phone to work while also looking for the offramp and trying to parallel park. and then me on the road with flying objects coming from the hood of my car.

Camping in the Sequoia's

We spent Friday-Monday camping at Hume Lake. We went with Lara & Joe, who stayed until Sunday. It was beautiful. So many stars at night, hot days playing in the water and conversations on the meadow and around the campfire. I hadn't been to Hume in 9 years. It was really fun to see old stomping grounds and take Wallace on his first camping trip.

We spent lots of time floating with Wallace in the middle of the lake.

a mix of things from last weeks post that i never posted

Here's a quick overview of Wallace's latest tricks.

In the month he has picked up the ever so classic "how big is wallace? soooo big!", giving kisses, pointing, high fives. His latest favorite thing is sitting by himself on the floor flipping through his books and pointing and babbling away to the pictures.

OK, he doesn't know how to do thumbs up yet, but happened to accidentally do it in this picture:

His latest favorite toy is this push thing below.

Last week I got together with the girls from my Spring Nurture Group. Here are the kids by the pool:

Here's a close-up of Wallace's teeth at the park. He just cut another one this weekend.

This weekend's camping pictures coming soon...

Colby's Birthday

Colby's birthday was last week and Saturday night was his party at the Joseph's house.

Rian and Colby were in the finals of the ping pong tournament. Colby won. I'm pretty sure Rian let him, as it was his bday. ;)

The Joseph's had an old friend staying with them. He is an Acupuncturist in Japan, so naturally, I had him stick some needles in my neck.

Old Vine Cafe

Rian and I met for lunch one day last week. Wallace kept busy eating the biggest cracker of his life.

The weekend...

it was good.

Wallace watching his dad make pancakes.

Wishing he was outside with Oliver.

HAPPY JUNE!
My resolution this month is to only check email once (1 time!) a day, each morning. I'm also only reading blogs and updating ours on Mondays. I guess I'll see you guys later (that's from Gardenstate).

On the lake

Saturday night us girls got together to celebrate some birthdays.

Another day on the yacht

We took Lauren and Brian out on our boat Sunday while my parents walked around Balboa Island with Wallace. We met at the gas dock while we filled up (that takes about 30 seconds) and stocked up on treats.

The Jones-Kennedy Neighborly Monthly Dinner

I know, it's a good name. A new tradition we're doing with our friends who live a couple minutes away, both of us in Santa Ana. This month it was at the Jones' house.

The Dawning of a New Deck

Rian's brother, Joel, was a HUGE help on Saturday, getting the foundation layed. This was the hardest part. I watched. And kept the drinks and meals coming.

Wallace watched too.
